In a blog post dated 5 June 2013, Mhairi McAlpine alleges the Greek government has been rounding up transgender people as part of their quest to “cleanse the streets of undesirables”. She says they are detained for several hours, then “are warned that if they do not ‘return to normal’ they would be arrested for public decency.”
If this is true, I find it horrifying.
There is a petition on AVAAZ.org demanding the Greek government stop this practice. Signing it and sharing it with like-minded people could encourage Greek government to make a statement about the allegations, if they are not true, and could put pressure on them to stop it, if it is true.
