The research I did on the safety of vaccines in an attempt to soothe the fears of a family member convinced me it’s high time I got a flu shot. I am not at high risk for it, but even otherwise healthy people can contract it badly enough to die from it. Now that I am in school, where people are likely to carry all manner of germs, it’s better to protect myself. With that in mind I strolled on down to my neighborhood Walgreens and had myself vaccinated.
I’d avoided it in the past, because people said they got the shot and caught the flu from it. But the vaccine is not live, therefore you can’t catch the flu from it. I didn’t know that. Knowledge is power…and can keep you healthy. It will also help keep my partner healthy. They have asthma and are not yet vaccinated, so they are at high risk of complications from the flu. My being vaccinated protects them, because I am less likely to pass it on to them.
