My thoughts after reading “The Sociological Imagination. Chapter One: The Promise”, by C. Wright Mills (1959).

Many of society’s issues seem to be set up, largely influenced by people lacking sociological imagination. Greed. Xenophobia. Racism. Sexism. Homophobia. Transphobia. Classism. They set up a society in which only a few individuals can thrive above mere subsistence levels. (Even if they are thinking about “society”, they are thinking about a society which only includes people like them. Nationalism. Elitism. Classism again. Cultural/Ethnic supremacy. They exclude people/societies which are not like them.) The sociological imagination forces the individual to think about more than themselves, their own comfort, their own fulfillment, their own clique.
