Psalm of the Flabbergasted

5 March 2017. Inspired by a 4 March 2017 tweet from @WilGafney: “When do we run out of flabber to be gasted?”

When do we run out of flabber to be gasted? For each day the orange one breathes vile utterances as his emboldened minions spread chaos over the face of the earth.

We call out to our elected officials for justice, but they hide and turn a deaf ear.

Parents are ripped from their children as they exit sanctuary spaces. The sick are denied care.

Restrooms are no longer places of rest for those who most need their sheltering stalls.

The wombs, the water, and the natives of this nation are under siege.

The blood of our Muslims, our transgender sisters, and our people of color is spilled daily while the misled rejoice about America being made “great again”.

The wicked grow fatter and praise the deeds of the orange one from their mansions while those with disabilities are forced into nursing homes, their means of independence destroyed.

The fearful call for the building of another wall in the face of the refugee, those fleeing violence, and those who seek just a crumb from our overflowing tables.

When we think we are out of gastedness ye, verily, our flabber is gasted again.

But we will not be silent, o God, for you have shown us the way of justice. Your command to love our neighbor as ourselves remains foremost in our minds.

We will welcome the refugee and immigrant and restore their children to them.

We will care for the sick, improve support for the disabled, and protect the bodily autonomy of those whose wombs are beseiged.

Our restrooms will remain places of relief for all who enter therein. The policing of gender shall be utterly abolished.

We will honor the natives of this land, those whose land this nation’s forefathers stole, and stand with them to protect our water.

Our Muslims shall be free to worship in peace, for we shall stand guard to protect their masjids.

In remembrance of murdered people of color and our transgender sisters we shall fiercely protect those who yet walk among us.

We who love justice shall march. We shall vote. We shall run for office.

We shall relentlessly drive away bigotry in all of its forms in your name, o God. For it is only then that America shall be great again.
