Today the world feels a little more frightening than it has in a few days. Everywhere I look in America people who are working hard are being let go as a way to “cut costs”, even though upper management making six figures isn’t taking any kind of pay cut. Corporate leaders in both religious and secular organizations give lip service to social justice, but don’t operate under those principles in their own organizations, especially not when budget cut time comes around. It is obvious that going to school and/or working hard don’t automatically mean one will do well in life financially. Some people are lucky, and it works out that way. Many, many other people aren’t nearly as lucky.
I don’t know what is going to become of so many of us ordinary people, and that frightens me.
Then I find out Bon Jovi is performing on The Ellen Show on 23 October, and the world feels just a little less scary, at least for a minute or two.
