Thanks, But No Thanks

Some folks, when told their curiosity about Black people’s hair or their appreciative commentary on the appearance of women they do not know is not welcome react with hurt. They say, “I do not feel comfortable complimenting people, because it could be taken the wrong way.”

Then don’t.

Seriously, don’t say anything. I promise you our lives will go on. There are people in our lives whom we know and trust who regularly compliment us. We do not need you to rescue our self esteem and will not miss your unwanted commentary.
