Today I Will (A To-Do List)

Today I will…

Make selfies in order to celebrate my beauty and combat past claims that I am “ugly”.

Pursue happiness in ways that are meaningful to me, in order to undo past socialization that taught me I am not worthy of happiness.

Make photos as part of being in the moment, so I can relive those special moments when I’m having a bad day.

Use Diaspora* and Ello and Twitter and Google+ and Facebook to be social with and bring joy to people I wouldn’t be able to see today, because we are busy doing what needs to be done in order to survive and thrive.

If that means some people will see me as vain, delusional, not present in the moment, and anti-social, so be it. My responsibility is not to try to change their minds or win their approval. My responsibility is to be the best me I can be to myself, my tribe, and the world (yes, in that order) in whatever ways allow me to do so. That means not entertaining shame about embracing technology as a part of that process. That means not apologizing for pursing happiness.
